Bitcoin Achieves First Bullish EMA Crossover in 3.5 Years
On October 12, 2026, Bitcoin recorded a significant technical milestone as its 13-week exponential moving average (EMA) crossed above the 34-week EMA, marking the first bullish crossover of this kind in three and a half years. This event was highlighted by David Cox, a technical analyst at Raymond James, who noted that such crossovers are typically interpreted as a sign that the medium-term trend may be shifting in favor of buyers.
At the time of the crossover, Bitcoin was trading at approximately $82,810, reflecting a slight intraday decline of about 1%. The trading range reported varied between $82,810 and $84,000. The crossover was accompanied by positive momentum readings in the MACD histogram, indicating increasing buying pressure as the gap between two moving averages widened.
Weekly crossovers are relatively rare and require sustained price movement to occur. Historically, similar crossovers have led to either significant price increases or periods of consolidation, depending on broader market conditions. Currently, traders are also closely monitoring ETF inflows and inflation data, which could influence Bitcoin's price trajectory beyond what the moving averages suggest.
