Bitcoin Suisse Announces Major Restructuring with Up to 50% Staff Cuts in Switzerland

Bitcoin Suisse, a prominent player in the Swiss cryptocurrency sector, is set to reduce its workforce by up to 60 positions, which accounts for nearly half of its 120 employees based in Switzerland. This significant restructuring effort is aimed at consolidating back-office operations in Bratislava, Slovakia, and establishing a new software development site in Vietnam, as part of a broader strategy to expand internationally.

The layoffs will primarily affect administrative, back-office, and software development roles, while client-facing positions will remain in Switzerland to ensure continued personalized service. The company emphasizes that these cuts are not a response to financial difficulties or fluctuations in Bitcoin's price, but rather a strategic shift towards serving high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and institutional clients. The consultation period for affected employees is expected to conclude on September 20, 2026, with initial layoffs anticipated before the end of the year.

Founded in 2013, Bitcoin Suisse has been a key player in establishing Zug's reputation as 'Crypto Valley' and has been actively acquiring regulatory licenses across various jurisdictions, including Liechtenstein, Abu Dhabi, and Bermuda. The decision to move operations to Bratislava, known for its lower labor costs, reflects a trend among European financial services firms seeking cost-effective solutions while remaining compliant with EU regulations. Meanwhile, Vietnam offers an even more competitive environment for software development talent, further supporting the company's international expansion goals.
