Longsys Electronics Allocates $704 Million for AI Memory R&D Following Successful IPO

Longsys Electronics, a prominent Chinese memory manufacturer, has raised approximately $903 million through its recent initial public offering (IPO) in Hong Kong. The company plans to invest 78% of these proceeds, roughly $704 million, into research and development for artificial intelligence (AI) memory chips. This strategic move marks a significant transition for Longsys, shifting from a memory module assembler to establishing its own semiconductor memory brand.

In the first half of 2026, Longsys reported a remarkable revenue increase of 136.3% year-over-year, reaching 24.1 billion yuan. The company's net profit for the same period soared to 10.7 billion yuan, reflecting a more than 260-fold increase compared to the previous year. Longsys is now recognized as the world's second-largest independent memory product maker by revenue, trailing only major players like Samsung and SK Hynix, and leads the independent memory segment in China.

The company is focusing on edge AI storage solutions, which are designed for AI inference at the device level, in network edge servers, and industrial equipment. Longsys has already introduced several products in this category, including the Storage Processing Unit (SPU) controller and DRAM-less PCIe Gen5 SSDs, aimed at enhancing AI workloads. With over 280 million units of its self-designed controller chips shipped, Longsys is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for advanced memory solutions in the AI sector.
