Palmer Square Capital Management Considers Sale of $37 Billion Credit Business

Palmer Square Capital Management, a prominent issuer of collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) based in Kansas, is exploring the sale of its credit business, which is valued at approximately $37 billion. The firm has engaged banking advisors to identify potential buyers as the credit asset management sector experiences significant consolidation, according to reports.

Founded in 2009 by Chris Long and Angie Long, Palmer Square has evolved from a startup into a major player in the global CLO market, with offices in locations including London. The firm manages around $27 billion within its CLO platform and offers various investment strategies, including opportunistic credit and private credit, along with a publicly traded business development company, Palmer Square Capital BDC Inc.

The U.S. CLO market has seen substantial growth, increasing fourfold to over $1.3 trillion in size over the past 15 years. This expansion reflects a shift from a niche segment of structured finance to a mainstream investment choice, driven by rising demand for floating-rate, senior secured loans, which become more appealing as interest rates increase.
