Rocket Pool Community Approves rETH Withdrawals and Maintains 4 ETH Bond Requirement

Rocket Pool's community has voted to implement a protocol-level mechanism for rETH holders to withdraw their ETH, while also deciding to maintain the existing 4 ETH bond requirement for megapool validators. The decisions were made through Snapshot votes conducted in late September and early October 2026, endorsing RPIP-71, which aims to enhance the liquidity for rETH redemptions by allowing random exits from megapools to facilitate withdrawals.

The approved RPIP-71 proposal will enable the protocol to trigger random exits from megapools when withdrawal requests are made, ensuring that no single operator is responsible for funding every exit. However, these exits will still adhere to Ethereum's exit queue, meaning that redemptions will occur at the pace allowed by the Ethereum network, rather than instantly.

In addition to the withdrawal mechanics, the community rejected proposals to alter the bond requirement, which was established during the Saturn 1 upgrade in February 2026. The bond will remain at 4 ETH, providing clarity for node operators regarding capital requirements. The upcoming Saturn 2 upgrade, which is currently in development, is expected to include additional protections against validator underperformance and tools for forced exits, enhancing the overall stability of the protocol.

As of October 12, 2026, the supply of rETH stood at approximately 315,605, supported by around 18,000 validators and 1,414 node operators. The development of Saturn 2 is anticipated to commence with an initial devnet launch in late October 2026, with mainnet deployment discussions projected for 2027, pending final approval.
