Report: Stablecoin market's $2 trillion target pushed back to 2030

PANews reported on October 15, citing The Block, that Standard Chartered's global head of digital assets research, Geoffrey Kendrick, in his latest report pushed back the expected timeline for the stablecoin market to reach $2 trillion from 2028 to 2030. The current stablecoin supply is around $309 billion, having remained in the $300 billion to $320 billion range over the past 12 months. Kendrick believes this year's stalled supply growth is cyclical rather than structural, coinciding with subdued crypto market activity. However, stablecoin usage is still growing, with average monthly on-chain transfer volume approaching $10 trillion this year, up from $4 trillion in 2025, and a single-month record of $19 trillion set in May. The report notes that regulation is the main risk to this forecast, with the U.S. GENIUS Act set to take effect in January 2027.
