Crypto Entrepreneur Richard Heart Detained in Turkey Over Tax Evasion Allegations

Richard Heart, the founder of cryptocurrency projects Hex and PulseChain, has been detained by Turkish authorities in Istanbul amid allegations of tax evasion and assault. The operation, conducted by local police and the National Intelligence Organization, also resulted in the arrest of Heart's wife. Reports indicate that authorities had been monitoring Heart's location prior to the arrests, which took place in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul.

Finnish authorities had previously sought Heart's arrest, leading to an Interpol Red Notice due to allegations of aggravated tax evasion and assault dating back to 2024. The suspected tax evasion is reported to have occurred between June 2020 and April 2024, while the assault allegation dates to February 2021. Some Turkish media have characterized the case as related to cryptocurrency fraud, although the specifics of the Finnish investigation remain distinct from these claims.

During the operation, Turkish authorities reportedly seized various items from Heart's residence, including mobile phones, laptops, firearms, and cash in multiple currencies. However, the total value of these items has not been disclosed. The situation raises questions about potential extradition proceedings, although Turkish reports have not confirmed whether such actions have commenced or if any new charges have been filed in Turkey.
