Adyen Names Klarna CFO Niclas Neglen as New Finance Chief
Payments FinTech Adyen hired Klarna Chief Financial Officer Niclas Neglen as its new CFO, effective Feb. 1, 2027, according to a Tuesday (Sept. 22) press release.
Neglen is also expected to join Adyen’s statutory management board, subject to regulatory and shareholder approval, the release said.
“His experience lines up exactly with where Adyen is in its growth journey and what we were looking for in our next CFO,” Adyen Co-Founder and Co-CEO Pieter van der Does said in the release. “Beyond his track record, Niclas understands a company like ours. That’s what gives us confidence he’s the right fit for our business, our strategy and our culture.”
Neglen will leave Klarna in early 2027, according to an Aug. 18 Klarna press release.
Before Klarna, Neglen served as CFO and chief operating officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at HSBC Private Bank, per the Tuesday press release. He previously spent 13 years at General Electric in senior finance roles.
“Adyen has built an exceptional business, and I believe there is tremendous opportunity still ahead,” Neglen said in the release. “I’m excited to join the team and contribute to the next phase of its growth.”
Hwa Tsao, Adyen’s senior vice president of group finance, will continue as interim CFO through the transition before returning to his previous role, according to the release.
Adyen has been building on its position as a payments provider to large enterprises. The company is seeking to deepen relationships with multinational customers as they expand into new countries and add more payment volume to the platform, PYMNTS reported this month. Adyen processed 803.8 billion euros (about $920 billion) in payments in the first half of 2026, up 24% from a year earlier, with about two-thirds of growth coming from merchants that joined the platform in 2024 or earlier.
Adyen’s in-person payment volume rose 28% to 175.7 billion euros (about $201 billion), PYMNTS reported in August. The company is pairing payments with loyalty capabilities, including through its acquisition of Talon. One, as merchants seek to maintain customer relationships across online and physical channels.
The CFO transition comes as Adyen’s business extends beyond processing individual transactions toward supporting more of the financial and commercial infrastructure used by large companies.
