AMD Stock: Stifel Maintains $635 Target Amid Server CPU Market Expansion
Key Takeaways
- Following an investor dinner with AMD leadership, Stifel maintained its Buy rating and $635 price objective on the stock.
- Company management highlighted growing confidence in server CPU operations, noting agentic AI’s emergence has expanded the addressable market significantly.
- Revenue shipments of AMD’s MI450/Helios product commenced this month as planned, tracking alongside Nvidia’s rollout timeline.
- Second quarter results showed revenue reaching $11.54 billion, marking a 50.1% annual increase, while EPS of $1.66 surpassed expectations.
- Institutional stakeholders control 71.34% of shares, despite insider transactions totaling $51.9 million in sales during the last quarter.
AMD stock is currently hovering near $514, drawing significant attention from market analysts. This week, Stifel reinforced its bullish stance with a Buy recommendation and $635 target following discussions with AMD’s investor relations leadership at a recent conference.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., AMD
The investor gathering included Matt Ramsey, AMD’s CVP of Investor Relations, alongside Prabh Gowrisankaran, Director of IR. Discussions heavily emphasized the company’s server CPU segment, with management demonstrating strong conviction in their product trajectory.
Company representatives explained that the transition from chatbot-based inference to agentic inference models has fundamentally expanded the CPU addressable market. Management positioned its Venice chip as the leading agentic CPU solution available today.
Additionally, AMD confirmed adequate supply availability to satisfy existing demand levels. This assurance carries weight considering the widespread supply chain challenges chipmakers have faced amid surging AI-related orders.
CPU Business Takes Center Stage
Regarding GPU developments, AMD’s MI450/Helios offering entered revenue-generating shipments this month according to plan. This deployment timeline aligns with Nvidia’s corresponding product launch, positioning both competitors in the marketplace simultaneously.
AMD noted that anticipated 2027 expansion won’t be limited by customer appetite but rather by the industry’s collective server manufacturing capacity. This represents a supply-side constraint rather than demand weakness—arguably a preferable challenge.
Stifel indicated these conversations strengthened its conviction regarding AMD’s EPYC server processor momentum. Recent weeks have seen twenty-seven analysts revise their earnings projections upward.
Piper Sandler launched coverage on AMD this week with an Overweight designation and $600 price objective. Meanwhile, CLSA elevated its target to $710, pointing to better-than-anticipated MI-455 GPU performance and improved earnings forecasts through fiscal 2028.
Financial Performance and Ownership Trends
AMD’s latest quarterly report, released August 4th, revealed revenue of $11.54 billion, exceeding the $11.31 billion consensus estimate. Earnings per share reached $1.66, topping the projected $1.62.
This represented a 50.1% year-over-year revenue climb. During the comparable quarter last year, AMD delivered EPS of merely $0.48.
The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company expanded its AMD stake by 41.5% during Q2, accumulating nearly 1.97 million shares valued at approximately $1.14 billion. Institutional investors now command 71.34% of outstanding shares.
Raymond James elevated AMD to Strong Buy in late August, pushing its price target to $641. The overall analyst consensus stands at Moderate Buy with a mean target of $565.12.
Conversely, company insiders offloaded $51.9 million in stock value throughout the past quarter. EVP Jean Hu divested 15,000 shares at $474.08 in late August. EVP Mark Papermaster sold 28,811 shares at $471.87 on August 20th. These transactions occurred through predetermined Rule 10b5-1 trading arrangements.
ARK Invest’s Cathie Wood maintained her AMD position reduction strategy during this timeframe, shifting resources toward alternative AI semiconductor holdings.
TSMC disclosed a 53.3% year-over-year August revenue increase, validating AMD’s volume projections while simultaneously highlighting constrained advanced packaging capacity industrywide.
