ARK Invest Exits $26M in Palantir (PLTR) Stock Following 48% Surge—Here’s What Wood Bought Instead
Key Highlights
- On August 31, ARK Invest divested 139,456 shares of Palantir, valued at approximately $26 million
- This divestment continues a trend, with ARK previously offloading over $27M in Palantir shares on August 21
- The capital was redirected toward Block ($38.1M) and Rocket Lab ($12.8M) investments
- Palantir’s stock price has surged 48.3% following its second-quarter earnings release on August 3
- Wall Street consensus rates Palantir as a Moderate Buy with a $197.89 average target price
ARK Invest, led by Cathie Wood, has been systematically reducing its exposure to Palantir while channeling capital into Block and Rocket Lab. The most recent transaction, executed on August 31, involved the sale of 139,456 Palantir shares valued at approximately $26 million.
Palantir Technologies Inc., PLTR
This divestment represents a continuation of an established pattern. On August 21, ARK offloaded more than $27 million worth of Palantir stock, alongside additional sales throughout August. These coordinated transactions suggest a calculated portfolio reallocation rather than routine rebalancing.
The sales coincide with Palantir’s impressive stock performance. Since releasing second-quarter earnings on August 3, the company’s shares have appreciated 48.3%, and ARK seems to be capitalizing on these gains.
Capital Reallocation Strategy
The proceeds from Palantir sales were strategically deployed across two growth sectors. ARK acquired 456,059 shares of Block, representing a $38.1 million investment, alongside 200,303 shares of Rocket Lab valued at $12.8 million.
These acquisitions indicate Wood’s preference for financial technology and aerospace sectors, areas where she apparently identifies greater value potential at present market levels.
Concurrently, ARK liquidated approximately $4 million in Advanced Micro Devices holdings, $12.3 million in Shopify, and roughly $10.9 million in Tempus AI during this portfolio restructuring.
Rocket Lab delivered exceptional second-quarter performance with record revenue of $234.1 million, representing 62% year-over-year growth, despite reporting a wider-than-anticipated loss of $0.08 per share.
The Block acquisition underscores ARK’s sustained confidence in the fintech ecosystem and cryptocurrency-related opportunities.
Palantir Maintains Presence in ARK’s Holdings
Despite recent sales, ARK hasn’t completely abandoned its Palantir position. The data analytics company remains the tenth-largest holding within the ARK Innovation ETF, accounting for 3% of portfolio weight.
Palantir’s second-quarter performance exceeded expectations, with revenue reaching $1.94 billion against analyst projections of $1.80 billion. Adjusted earnings per share of $0.41 similarly outperformed consensus estimates of $0.35.
Notwithstanding these solid results, TipRanks analyst consensus assigns Palantir a Moderate Buy rating, derived from 17 Buy recommendations, four Hold ratings, and two Sell opinions.
The consensus price target of $197.89 suggests approximately 6.2% potential appreciation from current trading levels around $186.38.
This relatively limited upside projection indicates that much of Palantir’s expansion narrative may already be priced into current valuations, potentially explaining ARK’s decision to reduce rather than expand its stake.
The critical consideration for market participants is whether ARK will continue downsizing its Palantir allocation should shares maintain their elevated price levels.
