Shares of ASML settled at $1,714.88 on September 4, 2026, representing a remarkable 115% appreciation over the previous year. Throughout this period, the stock fluctuated within a range of $786.75 to $1,999.96.
In its Q2 2026 shareholder communication, Sands Capital Global Growth Fund highlighted ASML as a significant portfolio contributor. The fund achieved a 22.2% quarterly gain, substantially outperforming the MSCI All Country World Index’s 14.9% return.
The investment thesis centers on artificial intelligence as the primary catalyst. Advanced semiconductor manufacturing demands increasingly complex lithography processes, and ASML produces the specialized equipment essential for these operations.
According to Sands Capital’s assessment, lithography capacity may emerge as a critical bottleneck in AI infrastructure expansion. This supply constraint could persist for an extended period.
The fund also identified agentic AI as an accelerating factor. Industry projections suggest data center architectures may evolve toward a one-to-one CPU-to-GPU configuration, intensifying demand for sophisticated logic semiconductors and the lithography tools required to produce them.
Sands Capital’s research indicates that chipmakers across geographies—including those in China and Western markets—will likely need additional lithography capacity to satisfy AI semiconductor requirements. This positions ASML favorably across multiple market segments.
