Bank of America Sets $590 Target for Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) Stock as Arizona Operations Accelerate
Key Takeaways
- Bank of America analysts confirm TSMC’s American manufacturing expansion is “progressing well,” with Arizona facility revenue climbing 17% sequentially and surging 145% annually.
- BofA elevated its TSM price objective to $590 while reaffirming a Buy recommendation.
- TSMC’s board greenlit $29B in American capital investments, representing approximately 99% growth versus the prior year.
- TSM shares started trading at $430.33, approaching the 12-month peak of $479.00, while consensus analyst forecasts point to $524.25.
- Ballentine Partners expanded its TSMC position by 6% during Q2, accumulating 45,094 shares valued at approximately $21.5 million.
Shares of TSM began Tuesday’s session at $430.33, hovering near the stock’s 12-month ceiling of $479.00, following Bank of America’s reinforcement of its optimistic stance on the semiconductor giant.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited, TSM
In a client communication, BofA analyst Haas Liu highlighted that TSMC’s American fabrication facilities are making substantial headway. The Arizona plant generated NT$45 billion in Q2 revenue, marking a 17% sequential increase and a remarkable 145% year-over-year expansion, contributing 4% to TSMC’s consolidated revenue.
Liu’s analysis reveals that TSMC’s net profitability for Arizona operations, when excluding government subsidies, maintained a healthy 38% in Q2 2026. This represents a dramatic turnaround from the approximately -90% loss recorded in 2025, demonstrating meaningful operational improvements.
The company’s board recently authorized $29 billion in American capital allocations, essentially doubling the previous year’s commitment. Liu anticipates capital expenditures will reach the guidance midpoint of $62 billion for 2026, with projections suggesting a potential escalation to $80-$85 billion in 2027.
Profitability Metrics Stay Robust
Even with substantial capital deployment, BofA forecasts TSMC’s gross profitability will remain resilient in the high-60% territory. Liu attributed this strength to robust appetite for high-performance computing solutions and premium mobile processors as primary margin stabilizers.
Depreciation expenses are projected to expand at approximately 20% compound annual growth rate between 2026 and 2028, reflecting the acceleration of cutting-edge and specialized technology capabilities. This encompasses a planned collaboration with Sony for image sensor manufacturing, scheduled to launch in 2029.
BofA increased its TSM valuation target to $590 from the previous $490 mark, maintaining its Buy designation. This represents potential appreciation of roughly 37% from Tuesday’s opening level.
Wall Street Consensus Tilts Bullish
The wider analyst universe demonstrates considerable alignment. Among research firms tracking TSM, three assign a Strong Buy rating, eleven recommend Buy, and only two suggest Hold. The consensus price projection stands at $524.25.
Needham elevated its objective to $530 from $480 in late July. DA Davidson adjusted its target upward to $500 from $450. Zacks Research upgraded TSM to Strong Buy during mid-July.
The single contrarian perspective emerged from Weiss Ratings, which downgraded TSM from Buy to Hold on August 12th.
Among institutional investors, Ballentine Partners enhanced its TSMC holdings by 6% in Q2, acquiring 2,566 additional shares to reach a total of 45,094 shares, representing approximately $21.5 million in market value.
Multiple other investment firms similarly increased their allocations during Q1 and Q2, including Twin City Private Wealth, Graves Light Lenhart Wealth, and Wealthcare Capital Partners.
TSMC delivered Q2 results showing earnings of $4.28 per share against revenues of $39.89 billion, achieving a net profitability rate of 50.31% and return on equity of 39.37%. Wall Street projects full-year earnings per share of $16.44.
