Bitcoin (BTC) Could Reach $400K by 2030, Says Coinbase Chief Armstrong
Key Takeaways
- Brian Armstrong, Coinbase’s CEO, projects Bitcoin may reach $400,000 by 2030, describing the forecast as “reasonable”
- Bitcoin currently fluctuates between $76,930 and $78,000, experiencing a 5.4% decline over the past week
- The Coinbase chief executive believes the cryptocurrency has reached its cyclical bottom
- Former Binance CEO CZ suggests Bitcoin may surpass gold’s market cap during the upcoming bull cycle
- U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $166.9 million in net withdrawals this week, potentially ending a three-week inflow streak
During a September 10 interview with CNBC, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong stated that a Bitcoin price of $400,000 by 2030 represents a “reasonable target.” Achieving this milestone would require the leading cryptocurrency to surge approximately 420% from its present valuation of roughly $76,930.
Armstrong referenced Bitcoin’s characteristic four-year cycle as foundational to his forecast. He emphasized that downturns typically span approximately one year, and the current correction has recently crossed that threshold.
“Most of the down periods last about a year, and we have actually just come across the 1-year mark for this down period, so I personally believe that the bottom is in on BTC in its most recent cycle,” Armstrong said.
The executive highlighted two imminent catalysts commanding market attention. The CLARITY Act faces a procedural vote in the Senate on September 15. Additionally, the next Bitcoin halving event is projected to occur within 18 to 19 months.
Armstrong identified several factors reinforcing his optimistic projection: increasing ETF demand, White House influence on regulatory bodies, and Bitcoin’s hard-capped supply of 21 million coins. He estimated a strong probability that Bitcoin will reclaim the $100,000 level before 2026 concludes.
Notably, this $400,000 projection represents a downward revision from Armstrong’s previous forecast of $1 million by 2030.
Analyst Projects Explosive Growth Over Next 1.6 Years
Market analyst Jesse Myers examined Bitcoin’s historical halving patterns to construct a potential trajectory. He observed that Bitcoin experienced approximately 100x growth following the 2012 halving, 30x after 2016, and 8x after 2020, before market participants began anticipating the 2024 event.
“If the same pattern plays out this cycle, the next 1.6 years could be the most explosive time for BTC,” Myers wrote. His model puts Bitcoin at $232,000 by the April 2028 halving, then $464,000 by late 2029.
Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao also weighed in, saying Bitcoin could overtake gold in the next bull run. “The market gives you plenty of opportunities to enter. All you have to do is to make the right decisions,” CZ said on Thursday.
ETF Investment Trends Show Weakness
Blockchain analytics platform Glassnode observed that U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have approached their break-even threshold, with institutional entry prices now functioning as a resistance zone.
ETF products attracted $986.9 million during the week concluding September 4, marking the continuation of a three-week positive trend totaling approximately $3.8 billion. Conversely, the present week demonstrates $166.9 million in net withdrawals, which would terminate that accumulation streak if sustained.
According to Polymarket prediction markets, 64% of participants anticipate Bitcoin will achieve $85,000 by December 31, 2026.
