Brent Crude Oil Surpasses $100 Amid Rising Inflation Concerns in Europe

Brent crude oil prices have surged by 2.7% to reach $100.55 per barrel, driven by ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran. This increase in oil prices has reignited fears of inflation across European markets, leading to a notable decline in equities. The DAX index in Germany fell by 1.6%, while France's CAC 40 dropped by 1.9%.

As oil prices rise, bond yields are also affected, with the yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds increasing by 0.4 basis points to 4.808%. This environment of elevated yields has contributed to a cautious market sentiment, with U.S. futures for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq both declining by 0.4%.

Market participants are closely monitoring upcoming economic indicators, particularly the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) report scheduled for release on Friday, as well as the European Central Bank's (ECB) monetary policy decision expected tomorrow. The ECB is anticipated to announce a rate hike in response to the inflationary pressures stemming from rising oil prices.
