Chainlink has introduced oracle price feeds for four tokenized equity assets issued by Coinbase on the Base blockchain, allowing decentralized finance platforms to integrate these stocks as borrowing collateral.

The newly supported tokenized securities represent equity positions in Nvidia, Meta, Apple, and Alphabet. These digital assets are available on Base with the symbols NVDAc, METAc, AAPLc, and GOOGLc, utilizing the B20 token framework designed specifically for real-world asset tokenization.

Coinbase introduced these four digital equity tokens on Base during late August. The issuing entity, Coinbase Onchain SPV Ltd., operates under Abu Dhabi Global Market regulations. Every tokenized share maintains a 1:1 backing ratio with actual stock certificates held in segregated custody arrangements via Alpaca Securities.

Token owners possess beneficial ownership rights to the underlying shares rather than direct legal ownership. Verified participants can provide voting guidance, although the issuer’s capacity to execute these instructions varies based on applicable legal frameworks and operational parameters.

Chainlink Oracle Mechanism Explained

Chainlink oracle feeds deliver total return valuations for each B20 tokenized equity. This calculation incorporates the current market price of underlying stocks alongside a dynamic multiplier retrieved from Coinbase’s blockchain-based oracle registry.

The multiplier coefficient compensates for corporate actions including dividend distributions. Coinbase typically reinvests dividend proceeds into additional stock positions following fee and tax deductions, which modifies the deposit-to-token ratio progressively. Chainlink’s oracle system incorporates these adjustments to provide protocols with precise asset valuations.

DeFi applications access this pricing information through Chainlink’s established V3 aggregator framework. Developers receive guidance to authenticate contract addresses directly instead of depending solely on ticker identifiers, as symbols can be replicated by alternative token issuers.

DeFi Integration of B20 Tokenized Securities

Armed with dependable oracle data, lending applications can now calculate collateral ratios, monitor position health, and execute automated liquidations when asset values decline below thresholds. Individual protocols establish independent risk parameters and determine which markets to activate.

Aave, Morpho, and Euler represent key protocols either preparing for or actively providing lending capabilities for B20 assets. Aerodrome facilitates liquidity provisioning for tokenized equities, while 0x, 1inch, KyberSwap, and CoW Swap enable secondary market trading.

This infrastructure allows users to deposit tokenized stock positions into compatible lending protocols and obtain loans backed by these assets, eliminating the need to liquidate holdings for capital access.

Chainlink’s oracle feeds operate continuously Monday through Friday, aggregating data from standard trading sessions, extended hours, and overnight markets. Data coverage and reliability fluctuate across different trading periods. Overnight sessions utilize fewer oracle providers and experience reduced update frequency. During weekends when U.S. equity markets remain closed, reported valuations may remain static.

While the Base blockchain operates continuously, these equity market constraints create potential vulnerabilities for lending protocols that depend on accurate real-time pricing for liquidation mechanisms.

American investors face restrictions preventing access to Coinbase Tokenized Stocks. Distribution occurs under Regulation S provisions, which govern securities offerings executed outside U.S. jurisdictions. Coinbase secured Abu Dhabi regulatory authorization in August for arranging investment transactions and providing custody services for tokenized securities, though this approval excludes U.S. market distribution.

Unverified participants who obtain tokens through decentralized finance channels without completing Coinbase’s compliance protocols cannot redeem digital shares, exercise ownership privileges, or submit shareholder voting instructions until successfully completing the mandatory verification procedures.
