Wall Street Economists Adjust Core PCE Forecasts Following CPI Data
Credo Technology (CRDO) Stock Plunges 21% Despite Earnings Beat as Wall Street Trims Targets
Key Takeaways
- CRDO shares plummeted 21% to $163.83 even after surpassing Q1’27 earnings projections and revenue forecasts.
- The company reported adjusted EPS of $1.20, exceeding the $1.17 forecast; revenue reached $479 million versus $473 million anticipated.
- Forward-looking Q2 revenue guidance of $525M-$535M failed to satisfy analyst expectations.
- J.P. Morgan reduced its price objective from $335 down to $310; BofA decreased its target from $340 to $275.
- From a technical perspective, shares have declined approximately 40% from the 2026 peak of $308.30, with additional downside potential identified by market watchers.
Shares of Credo Technology Group experienced a sharp 21% decline on Wednesday, settling at $163.83 during afternoon sessions, following Tuesday evening’s quarterly report that generated cautious sentiment from Wall Street analysts even as the semiconductor company exceeded consensus figures.
Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd, CRDO
The connectivity solutions provider reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.20 for its fiscal first quarter concluded on August 1, surpassing the Street’s $1.17 projection. Total revenue reached $479 million, exceeding both the $473 million analyst forecast and the upper boundary of management’s $475 million guidance. Year-over-year revenue growth registered at 114.7%.
The company’s GAAP gross margin expanded to 64.5%, while GAAP net income advanced to $129.4 million compared to $64 million in the same period last year. Sequentially, however, net income declined from the $169 million recorded in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026.
Chief Executive Bill Brennan noted that the firm’s “portfolio now spans connectivity from millimeters to kilometers,” encompassing both optical and copper solutions designed for AI-focused data centers.
Looking ahead to the quarter ending in October, management projected revenue between $525 million and $535 million.
Analyst Community Responds with Skepticism
The forward revenue projection underwhelmed the investment community. J.P. Morgan’s Joseph Cardoso trimmed his price objective from $335 to $310, noting that the “raised outlook is likely to disappoint,” especially regarding optical revenue streams. “Investors and we alike had been anticipating more material upside,” Cardoso commented.
Bank of America preserved its Buy recommendation while significantly reducing its price target from $340 to $275, highlighting deceleration in Credo’s copper cable division despite ongoing expansion in optical products.
Mizuho maintained its Outperform stance and advised clients to “buy the pullback,” though analyst Jordan Klein conceded that both the revenue performance and forward guidance appeared “a bit skinnier” relative to previous reporting periods.
The market response underscores expectations that had become extremely elevated. CRDO had surged to a year-to-date peak of $308.30 earlier in 2026 before Wednesday’s selloff drove shares into the $160 range. The decline represents nearly a 40% retreat from its recent high.
Premium Valuation Amplifies Selling Pressure
Valuation metrics also contributed to the downdraft. Following the decline, Credo continues trading at a forward price-to-earnings multiple of approximately 45 on a GAAP basis. The broader technology sector median stands at 29, positioning CRDO at a significant premium to industry counterparts including Dell and Nvidia.
From a technical analysis standpoint, shares have breached both the 50-day and 100-day exponential moving averages. Chart patterns reveal a double-top formation near the June highs, a configuration that frequently precedes additional downside movement. The subsequent critical support level to monitor is the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement zone around $171.
The company specializes in copper active electrical cables and optical digital signal processors that facilitate connections between AI servers and networking infrastructure within data centers. Major customers encompass Amazon, Microsoft, and SpaceX, all of which have committed to expanding their data center infrastructure investments.
During premarket activity on Wednesday, CRDO shares had already fallen more than 9%, touching their lowest valuation since July 30.
