Dollar Mixed as Oil Prices Surpass $100 Amid Economic Concerns

The U.S. dollar is experiencing mixed performance against major currencies as the North American trading session begins, with notable declines against six of the seven major currencies. The Canadian dollar and Swiss franc have shown strength, with the dollar down approximately 0.39% against the Canadian dollar and 0.33% against the Swiss franc. Meanwhile, crude oil prices have surged above $100 per barrel, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly between Saudi Arabia and Houthi forces, which have kept the risk premium elevated in the oil market.

In the U.S., economic indicators are drawing attention, particularly in the housing sector. Upcoming reports on building permits and housing starts are expected to provide insights into how the housing market is coping with high financing costs. The mixed performance of Treasury yields, with shorter-term yields rising while longer-term yields decline, suggests a complex economic landscape where inflation concerns persist alongside a potential easing of borrowing costs.

European stock markets are also under pressure, with major indices such as Germany's DAX and France's CAC 40 showing declines. Economic data from Germany indicates stronger producer-price inflation but weaker economic sentiment, complicating the outlook for the Eurozone. The euro has remained relatively stable against the dollar, trading near 1.1209, while the broader European economic indicators reflect a challenging environment for growth.
