Ethereum (ETH) Bulls Target $3,000 After Golden Cross and $697M ETF Surge

      Key Highlights

      • ETH rallied to its strongest price point since January while printing a golden cross pattern
      • Institutional demand surged with $697 million flowing into spot Ethereum ETFs in one week
      • Network staking participation reached 35%, representing 42.3 million ETH locked in validators
      • Bears faced crushing losses as $1.69 billion in short positions were wiped out across 72 hours
      • Technical analysts eye $2,750 as the immediate upside target, with $3,000 marking critical resistance

Ethereum (ETH) powered through the $2,500 threshold during the past week, marking its strongest performance since mid-January. The breakout was fueled by significant institutional capital and a massive liquidation event that wiped out bearish positions.

Spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds in the United States attracted $697 million in fresh capital last week. This dramatic reversal followed the prior week’s modest $2.2 million in outflows. August has proven exceptionally strong for ETF products, accumulating $939 million in net inflows—far surpassing July’s $365 million figure.

BlackRock’s Ethereum ETF continues to dominate the category with $7.8 billion in total assets under management. The combined assets of all US-listed spot ETH funds have reached $14.2 billion, while lifetime net inflows since their debut total $12.15 billion.

Friday saw ETH climb 8%, building on momentum from a violent short squeeze that unfolded earlier in the week. A staggering $265 million in short positions were liquidated within just 24 hours, contributing to a three-day total of $1.69 billion in forced closures of bearish bets.

Market sentiment indicators shifted dramatically as the Crypto Fear and Greed Index climbed to 76, firmly in greed territory. The optimistic mood follows Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s announcement expanding bond buyback programs, sparking a broader appetite for risk assets.

      Bullish Chart Pattern Emerges

Technical analysis reveals ETH has printed a golden cross on the daily timeframe, as the 50-day Weighted Moving Average crossed above the 200-day counterpart. Traders typically interpret this formation as a signal of sustained bullish momentum.

The asset currently trades comfortably above all major moving averages, including the 20-, 50-, 100-, and 200-day Exponential Moving Averages. That said, momentum indicators flash warning signs—the 14-day RSI registers near 87 while the Stochastic Oscillator hovers around 99, both deep in overbought zones.

Market analyst Ted Pillows highlighted on X that ETH’s recapture of $2,400 represented a crucial inflection point, stating that a weekly candle close above $2,450 would open the door toward $3,000.

      Network Activity and Holder Behavior

Ethereum’s staking participation rate has expanded to 35%, with validators now locking up 42.3 million tokens. This metric signals deepening conviction among long-term network participants.

On-chain metrics paint a picture of restrained profit-taking. Network Realized Profit/Loss data indicates limited distribution from wallets holding gains. Meanwhile, the Age Consumed metric—which monitors movement of dormant coins—remains subdued, suggesting veteran holders aren’t rushing to exit despite price appreciation.

The Coinbase Premium Index, which measures ETH price differences between Coinbase Pro and Binance, has been climbing but hasn’t yet crossed into positive territory. A positive flip would signal intensifying demand from US-based institutional participants.

The immediate resistance barrier stands at $2,545, representing this week’s peak. Beyond that level, technical observers identify $2,750 and $2,868 as subsequent upside objectives. Downside protection appears at $2,172, followed by the 200-day EMA near $2,130.

At press time, ETH changed hands around $2,520, with ETF products experiencing their strongest weekly performance of 2026.
