FinTechs Follow Corporate Clients Into Bigger Financial Relationships
FinTechs are finding more growth in large corporate relationships, whether by winning larger customers or handling more of the financial activity of companies they already serve.
Revolut, for example, is targeting FTSE 250 businesses as it seeks a larger role in corporate banking, where its penetration has trailed its business among smaller companies, the Financial Times reported Wednesday (Sept. 9). Revolut Business provides current accounts, payment services and corporate debit cards, and the company plans to build its credit capabilities for larger businesses.
Revolut Business ended 2025 with 767,000 customers, up 33% during the year, PYMNTS reported. It accounted for 16% of company income and $365 billion in transaction volume, while revenue increased 53%.
A company operating across countries can require payments, foreign exchange, employee spending, cash management and credit across multiple entities and currencies. Winning the account is an on-ramp toward fostering several lines of business within the same corporate relationship.
Ramp is approaching the market from corporate spending and financial operations. The company now markets its platform to private multinationals and Fortune 500 companies with tools designed to manage spending across entities, currencies and regions. Its corporate expense program has also been moving into Australia, Japan, Singapore, Brazil and Mexico.
Ramp’s customer data indicates that larger companies are already becoming a bigger part of the business. Its enterprise customer base grew 133% year over year in 2025, PYMNTS reported.
The platform now encompasses corporate cards, expense management, bill payments, procurement, travel booking, treasury, automated bookkeeping and financial intelligence. The breadth matters when the customer is a large company because finance work is spread across more systems, employees, vendors and approval structures.
Ramp’s Applied AI Solutions, introduced in June, was designed specifically for large enterprises. The offering targets financial processes involving multiple systems, company policies, vendor contracts, approval chains and exceptions.
Adyen is investing in India as multinational customers enter India and Indian companies conduct more business abroad, Reuters reported Wednesday. The requirements include local acquiring, cross-border payments and support for domestic payment methods and regulatory requirements.
Adyen’s existing customer relationships show the economics behind the strategy. It processed 803.8 billion euros (about $933 billion) in the first half of 2026, up 24% from a year earlier, PYMNTS reported. About two-thirds of its first-half growth came from merchants that had joined the platform in 2024 or earlier.
Adyen typically handles less than 20% of a merchant’s payment volume during years three through seven of the relationship. After a decade, the figure exceeds 40%, PYMNTS reported.
Uber illustrates how a multinational account can produce more business over time. The company has taken its Adyen relationship into the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong and the Caribbean while using local acquiring in Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia. Its payment options include Pix in Brazil and AfterPay in Australia, PYMNTS reported.
Adyen is also addressing commerce channels that large merchants may need to support next. Adyen Agentic is designed to connect enterprise merchants with multiple artificial intelligence commerce platforms without requiring a separate integration for each protocol, product data format or checkout process, PYMNTS reported.
Corporate Growth Tests the Finance Stack
The push toward larger customers coincides with mounting complexity inside corporate finance departments.
The PYMNTS Intelligence report “Growth and Scaling: The Corporate Finance Inflection Point” found in August that 58% of companies in the United States with $100 million to $1 billion in annual revenue increased revenue during the previous 24 months. Meanwhile, 45% made at least three significant business changes, while 62% introduced products or services.
Finance systems haven’t always kept pace. The report revealed that 62% of executives said cash flow forecasting was difficult to manage or scale, 42% cited reconciliation and 40% identified data integration. Just 12% said their finance and back-office systems were fully prepared for the next two years.
That creates openings for providers across several parts of corporate finance, but the paths aren’t interchangeable.
Revolut is testing whether a business franchise built heavily among small companies can win large corporate accounts. Ramp is taking a spending and expense platform into more complex finance functions and global operations. Adyen is showing how an established enterprise payments provider can generate growth as multinational customers put more countries, channels and transaction volume onto its platform.
The announcements put the trend into sharper relief. Large companies can bring more than a large payment or expense account. They can give a FinTech multiple ways to become part of how money moves through the business.
