- Five Below shares climbed 6.2% in premarket sessions following strong Q2 financial results
- The company’s adjusted earnings per share reached $1.68, surpassing the Street’s $1.33 forecast
- Revenue increased 22.9% from the prior year to $1.26 billion
- Comparable store sales expanded 14.1%, marking the company’s fifth consecutive quarter of double-digit comp growth
- The discount retailer boosted its fiscal 2026 EPS outlook to $9.83-$10.31 and authorized a $600 million stock repurchase plan
Shares of Five Below (FIVE) surged 6.2% during premarket hours Thursday following the discount retailer’s announcement of fiscal second-quarter earnings that exceeded analyst projections on both the top and bottom lines.
The Philadelphia-based retailer delivered adjusted earnings of $1.68 per share, significantly surpassing the Wall Street consensus estimate of $1.33. Revenue reached $1.26 billion, representing a 22.9% year-over-year increase and beating analyst expectations of $1.21 billion. Following the premarket rally, shares were approaching the upper end of their 52-week trading range of $137.77 to $263.88.
The company posted comparable sales growth of 14.1% during the period. This performance extends an impressive run of five straight quarters featuring double-digit comparable sales increases, demonstrating sustained momentum.
The Force Behind Comparable Sales Momentum
The comparable sales expansion stemmed from increased foot traffic and higher transaction counts rather than elevated average purchase amounts. This nuance is significant, indicating that the retailer is successfully attracting more shoppers who are making purchases with greater frequency.
Management at Five Below increased its full-year 2026 revenue projection to a range of $5.63 billion to $5.71 billion. The company also elevated its adjusted diluted earnings per share guidance to between $9.83 and $10.31.
Additionally, the company’s board of directors authorized a fresh $600 million share buyback initiative.
Wall Street Weighs In
Following the quarterly report, Deutsche Bank increased its price objective on FIVE shares to $334 from a previous $318. Jefferies maintained its Buy recommendation while holding its $350 price target steady.
Guggenheim elevated its price target to $290 from $250 while reiterating a Buy rating. Analyst John Heinbockel highlighted fundamental improvements in merchandising, marketing strategies, and store presentation as key drivers powering the revenue turnaround.
Telsey Advisory Group lifted its target to $305 from $280 alongside an Outperform rating. Wells Fargo upgraded its price objective to $295 from $260, pointing to continued momentum and the possibility of additional earnings expansion.
Heinbockel observed that shares advanced approximately 5% in after-hours trading post-announcement, though he suggested the relatively measured response may reflect investor awareness of difficult year-over-year comparisons extending into 2027.
Trading at 12.8 times Guggenheim’s 2027 projection, the valuation aligns with EBITDA PEG multiples exceeding 1.0x commonly applied to well-positioned growth-oriented companies. Five Below presently carries a price-to-earnings ratio of 30.44 alongside a PEG ratio of 0.46.
The stock has delivered a 61% return over the trailing twelve months. Data from InvestingPro indicates that 11 analysts have recently increased their earnings projections for the company’s next reporting period.
Major indices posted modest gains during Thursday’s session, with the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and Nasdaq Composite each advancing approximately 0.2%.
