Flydubai temporarily suspends flights to Israel after incident

Flydubai has temporarily suspended all flights to and from Israel after a foiled bid to crash a Dubai-Tel Aviv flight on Wednesday.

The suspension follows an attempt by a Flydubai co-pilot to reportedly crash the plane carrying 174 passengers. The flight made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.

“This temporary suspension will allow the relevant authorities to continue their work and establish all the facts surrounding the incident,” a Flydubai spokesperson said.

The suspension will be reviewed once more information becomes available, the spokesperson added. The incident had no impact on other scheduled operations across Flydubai’s network.

Fellow Dubai carrier Emirates also suspended codeshare operations with Flydubai to and from Tel Aviv with immediate effect.

Passengers whose final destination is Tel Aviv will not be accepted for travel at the point of origin, the airline said on its website.

Customers already en route to Tel Aviv will receive all possible support to complete their journeys, it added.

The altercation occurred in the flight deck of FZ 1073, operating from Dubai International to Ben Gurion International Airport on Wednesday, a Flydubai statement said.

The aircraft was successfully secured by on-duty flydubai crew travelling on the flight, who diverted and landed the aircraft safely at Tabuk Airport.
