Gold Price Approaches $4,200 Resistance Ahead of US CPI Report

Gold prices are currently testing the crucial $4,200 mark, a significant level that has been a focal point for traders over the past two weeks. As the market anticipates the release of the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, this inflation data could influence broader market reactions, potentially impacting gold's performance.

Following a recent advance, gold has faced resistance in the $4,200 to $4,220 range, stabilizing around $4,150 to $4,160 in recent trading sessions. This price action coincides with the convergence of the 100-hour and 200-hour moving averages, indicating a critical juncture for buyers. A sustained breakout above $4,200 is necessary for gold to gain momentum, with the $4,220 level presenting another challenge for upward movement.

The upcoming US CPI report is expected to play a pivotal role in determining gold's trajectory. A lower-than-expected core inflation figure could provide support for gold prices, particularly if it leads to declines in Treasury yields and the US dollar. Conversely, if gold falls below $4,150, it may target the $4,100 to $4,117 range, near the 78.6 Fibonacci retracement level, which could signal further declines towards $4,000.
