Gold Prices Decline Amid Rising Oil Prices and Treasury Yields
Gold prices faced downward pressure as they rejected a key trendline, influenced by a minor increase in oil prices and rising Treasury yields. The market has been relatively stagnant, lacking significant developments that could drive prices in either direction. Geopolitical tensions remain largely unchanged, although reports suggest a potential breakthrough in US-Iran negotiations may be announced this week. However, past experiences with similar vague reports have led to skepticism regarding their impact on the market.
Concerns about economic growth are becoming more prominent, with the upcoming release of the US Flash Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) on Friday expected to be a crucial indicator. If the data indicates weaker growth, it could lead to a decline in real yields, potentially boosting gold prices. Conversely, stronger-than-expected data might alleviate growth fears and exert further downward pressure on the precious metal.
Technical analysis shows that gold has been consolidating within a wide range, with sellers targeting a drop to the 3,885 level. Buyers, on the other hand, need to break above the trendline to aim for a rally towards the 4,700 level. Market participants are likely to continue trading within this range until a breakout occurs, with key levels of 4,400 and 4,070 being closely monitored. Upcoming economic data, including US Jobless Claims on Thursday, may provide the necessary catalyst for a breakout.
