Gold Prices Rebound Amid Easing Geopolitical Tensions

Gold prices experienced a significant rebound in the latter part of last week, following comments from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who ruled out military strikes on Iran before the upcoming November elections. Trump's remarks indicated that discussions between the U.S. and Iran have been productive, leading to a relief rally in gold as U.S. Treasury yields and the dollar weakened.

Over the weekend, Iran responded to the U.S. regarding its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the U.S. response was insufficient. Iran outlined seven conditions for restoring normal maritime passage within a week, with some points still unresolved. Ongoing negotiations are expected to influence market sentiment in the coming days.

Looking ahead, market participants are closely monitoring developments between the U.S. and Iran, as well as the upcoming U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) report scheduled for Wednesday. A higher-than-expected core CPI reading could increase the likelihood of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike in October, potentially exerting downward pressure on gold prices. Conversely, a softer CPI report may alleviate rate hike concerns and further support gold.
