IonQ (IONQ) Stock: 2026 Revenue Outlook Soars 60% Following SkyWater Deal
Key Takeaways
- IonQ elevated its 2026 annual revenue projection to $450M-$460M from $280M-$290M, representing approximately 60% growth
- The increase stems primarily from SkyWater Technology, the semiconductor foundry IonQ purchased for $1.8 billion on July 31
- The company introduced Superion 256, its sixth-generation quantum computing platform, scheduled for customer shipments in 2027
- IonQ secured an $8.18 million quantum-security contract with Congruity360, marking one of America’s largest commercial quantum security transactions
- The core quantum division received no updated projections; the August forecast midpoint of $285M remains unchanged, though at an elevated revenue multiple
IonQ stock approached $44 during Tuesday’s investor presentation before retreating. The company carried a market capitalization of approximately $15.7 billion entering the event.
The quantum computing firm boosted its 2026 full-year revenue outlook to a range of $450 million through $460 million. This represents a significant elevation from the $280 million to $290 million range provided in early August, marking approximately 60% expansion.
This marks the third instance of IonQ elevating its forecasts this year. The initial two increases stemmed from the quantum operations exceeding internal expectations. This latest revision differs substantially.
The revised forecast incorporates SkyWater Technology revenues for the first time, subsequent to completing the $1.8 billion acquisition on July 31. SkyWater delivered $317.1 million in revenue during the initial six months of fiscal 2026, representing more than double the previous year’s performance.
At SkyWater’s current trajectory, its five-month revenue contribution could substantially exceed the $170 million midpoint-to-midpoint guidance elevation. The quantum computing division itself did not receive updated projections.
Superion 256 Platform Launched
IonQ leveraged the investor presentation to introduce Superion 256, representing its sixth-generation quantum computing architecture. The processors undergo fabrication at the SkyWater manufacturing facility. Customer deliveries are anticipated throughout 2027.
Rosenblatt analyst John McPeake participated in the event and noted IonQ seems to be “deep into the productization part of the development cycle.” StoneX analyst Gary Mobley previously forecasted the SkyWater transaction might accelerate IonQ’s timeline for a 200,000-qubit platform by approximately twelve months.
The company additionally revealed an $8.18 million security contract with enterprise data management provider Congruity360. IonQ characterized this as “one of the largest commercial quantum-security agreements in the United States to date.”
Market Valuation Analysis Becomes Complex
Excluding SkyWater at its $1.8 billion acquisition cost, approximately $15 billion of IonQ’s market capitalization continues to depend on the quantum platform’s $285 million in projected revenue. This positions the core quantum operations at roughly 53 times projected sales, elevated from approximately 49 times preceding the announcement.
IonQ continues experiencing substantial losses. Its second-quarter non-GAAP EBITDA deficit reached $120.3 million, compared with a $36.5 million loss in the corresponding prior-year period. This deficit exceeded the quarter’s aggregate revenue.
CEO Niccolo de Masi discussed IonQ’s exclusion from the Commerce Department’s $100 million quantum funding allocation awarded to competitors Rigetti Computing, D-Wave Quantum, and Quantinuum. He cited regulatory constraints preventing equity transactions while the SkyWater transaction awaited regulatory clearance.
De Masi emphasized IonQ operates a dedicated federal division with existing agency contracts, stating: “As we are in more vectors of growth, there are more ways for us to partner with this nation’s government and with enterprise customers.”
IonQ’s second-quarter revenue totaled $80.1 million, representing 287% year-over-year growth.
