Key FX Option Expiries Set for October 9 Affecting Major Currency Pairs

On October 9, significant foreign exchange option expiries are expected to influence trading in major currency pairs, particularly EUR/USD, USD/JPY, and AUD/USD. For EUR/USD, expiries are noted at 1.1200 and 1.1250, with the current spot price around 1.1230. These levels may act as magnets for price movement, potentially keeping the currency pair within the 1.1200 to 1.1250 range during the trading session. The dollar's performance will also be influenced by developments in the bond market, particularly Treasury yields, which saw a slight retreat recently, allowing EUR/USD to regain some strength above 1.1200.

In addition to EUR/USD, the USD/JPY pair has an expiry at the 158.00 level, which is currently within 10 pips of the spot price. This concentration could stabilize trading around this figure level unless there are significant fluctuations in Treasury yields. Meanwhile, for AUD/USD, an expiry at the 0.7000 level is also within 20 pips of the current price, which may attract attention if the Australian dollar attempts a recovery, although overall dollar sentiment remains the primary driver.

Looking ahead to the following week, trading activity may be subdued due to a U.S. market holiday, resulting in a lack of option interest on Monday. As traders navigate these expiries, the broader market dynamics, particularly movements in Treasury yields and dollar sentiment, will continue to play a crucial role in shaping price action across these currency pairs.
