New Law Reduces Medicaid Funding by $1 Trillion and Alters Social Program Eligibility

A newly enacted law is set to cut approximately $1 trillion from Medicaid funding through 2034, significantly impacting healthcare access for millions of Americans. The legislation also introduces stricter eligibility requirements for various social programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

As part of the changes, millions of individuals are expected to lose their SNAP benefits. Additionally, new work requirements for Medicaid recipients are scheduled to take effect in January 2027, which may further restrict access to healthcare for vulnerable populations. These measures have raised concerns among advocates for low-income individuals and families, who argue that the cuts could exacerbate existing health disparities.
