Australian Dollar Declines Against US Dollar Amid Technical Challenges

The Australian dollar (AUD) has experienced significant volatility against the US dollar (USD), trading predominantly below its 100-hour moving average. As of the start of the Asia-Pacific trading session, the AUD/USD pair was unable to break through the moving average level of 0.7116, leading to increased selling pressure as the price fell away from this resistance point.

The decline in the AUD/USD reached a critical support level at 0.70795, which represents the 50% retracement of the upward movement from a low recorded on July 29. After an initial bounce from this level, the pair struggled to maintain upward momentum, ultimately falling below both the midpoint and the 100-day moving average at 0.70737, intensifying the selling activity.

Currently, the AUD/USD is trading near 0.70395, having tested a swing area between 0.7020 and 0.7027, which is defined by highs from mid-June. This area, along with the 200-day moving average at 0.70177, is seen as a crucial support zone for buyers. A sustained break below this average would indicate a significant shift in the market's technical outlook, marking the first time since November 2025 that the pair has traded below this level. Traders are closely monitoring whether buyers can defend this support zone and reclaim the 0.70422 level, which would signal a potential recovery for the Australian dollar.
