Polymarket Seeks $1 Billion Investment at $21 Billion Valuation Led by Trump Jr.’s Venture Firm
Key Highlights
- 1789 Capital, founded by Donald Trump Jr., is spearheading a billion-dollar investment in Polymarket
- The financing deal establishes Polymarket’s worth at $21 billion, representing a 40% increase from $15 billion earlier this year
- 1789 Capital’s total commitment could reach $500 million, including $200 million from prior investments and $300 million in new capital
- ICE, which operates the New York Stock Exchange, holds approximately 22% ownership as Polymarket’s top shareholder
- Congressional Democrats are examining 1789 Capital’s rapid expansion and connections to federally supervised sectors
The prediction market platform Polymarket is pursuing a substantial $1 billion capital injection that would establish its valuation at $21 billion, with 1789 Capital—the venture firm led by Donald Trump Jr.—serving as the lead investor.
Trump Jr.-Backed 1789 Capital to Add About $300M to Polymarket at $21B Valuation
The Wall Street Journal reported that 1789 Capital, where Donald Trump Jr. is a partner, plans to invest about $300 million more in prediction market platform Polymarket. The investment is part of a… pic.twitter.com/sAvdcxfS2D

According to the proposed terms, 1789 Capital intends to inject approximately $300 million into this financing round. Combined with the firm’s earlier commitments of roughly $200 million, this would bring 1789 Capital’s aggregate investment to approximately $500 million, assuming the transaction reaches completion.
This new valuation represents a substantial 40% appreciation from Polymarket’s prior assessment of approximately $15 billion, which was established during a financing round that concluded in April 2026.
The Wall Street Journal initially disclosed details of this fundraising initiative on August 31. Representatives from 1789 Capital have independently verified the investment amount and corresponding valuation. However, the financing round remains incomplete, and final arrangements may still undergo modifications.
Additional Major Investors in Polymarket
Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent organization of the New York Stock Exchange, continues to hold the position of Polymarket’s primary institutional backer. The exchange operator’s stake accounts for roughly 22% of the company’s equity.
ICE initially disclosed an investment commitment of up to $2 billion in October 2025, which assigned Polymarket an approximate valuation of $8 billion at that time. The company subsequently deployed an additional $600 million in cash during March 2026.
According to SEC documentation, ICE recognized a $389 million unrealized gain on its Polymarket holdings during the first quarter of 2026. This appreciation stemmed from share price increases rather than operational revenue distributions from the platform.
Following 1789 Capital’s initial stake acquisition, Trump Jr. accepted a position on Polymarket’s advisory board. Notably, he also serves as an advisor to competing prediction marketplace Kalshi, where he obtained equity compensation valued at over $300,000 in 2025.
Regulatory Challenges and Domestic Market Entry
Polymarket had previously restricted access for U.S.-based participants following a 2022 resolution with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. As part of that agreement, the platform paid a $1.4 million civil monetary penalty.
The company has subsequently established a compliant domestic operation through its purchase of QCEX. The CFTC currently recognizes QCX LLC, which operates under the Polymarket U.S. brand, as an official designated contract market.
According to company statements, Polymarket has developed monitoring infrastructure capable of supporting trading activity related to the 2026 midterm elections. Earlier contracts tied to the World Cup generated trading volumes in the billions, demonstrating that sports-related markets have emerged as a significant component of platform engagement.
Nonetheless, legal obstacles persist at the state level. Certain regulatory authorities contend that event-based contracts linked to sporting competitions constitute unauthorized gambling activities. Judicial decisions have varied considerably across different jurisdictions, resulting in an inconsistent regulatory environment.
The proposed capital infusion would provide Polymarket with enhanced resources to address legal expenses, regulatory compliance requirements, technological infrastructure, and competitive pressures from platforms like Kalshi.
Members of the Democratic caucus on the House Judiciary Committee are conducting an inquiry into 1789 Capital’s rapid expansion and its portfolio companies that maintain connections to federally regulated industries. The investigation does not constitute evidence of misconduct. Representatives from 1789 Capital have characterized the examination as politically driven.
Polymarket operates as a private entity without publicly traded securities and has not disclosed audited financial records.
