Robinhood Markets (HOOD) started Monday trading at $122.11, following an impressive 36% surge during August. This performance positioned the trading platform as the leading major financial stock throughout the month, significantly outperforming the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund’s modest 0.54% increase.
Trading within a 52-week range spanning $63.51 to $153.86, the company currently holds a market capitalization of approximately $109.79 billion.
Strong underlying business metrics fueled the August momentum. Second-quarter revenue achieved a record-breaking $1.31 billion, marking a 32.5% year-over-year expansion. Earnings per share of $0.62 exceeded Wall Street projections of $0.44 by $0.18.
Transaction-driven revenue climbed 44% to reach $776 million, propelled by robust activity in event contracts, options trading, and equity transactions.
The event contracts division emerged as the star performer. This segment’s revenue exploded to $156 million during Q2, representing more than a tenfold increase from the comparable prior-year period, and surpassed both cryptocurrency ($100 million) and equity trading ($129 million) revenue streams for the first time in company history.
The company introduced Rothera, its CFTC-licensed prediction market platform, in June. By the conclusion of Q2, over 3.5 billion contracts had been executed through this exchange.
AI-Powered Trading Shows Promise
Robinhood introduced Agentic Trading during May. This innovative feature enables users to deploy AI agents for executing trades across stocks, options, and cryptocurrencies.
By Q2’s end, approximately 100,000 users had activated Agentic Trading accounts, collectively holding over $100 million in custodial assets.
The financial services firm now operates 13 distinct business segments, each producing annualized revenue exceeding $100 million.
Chief Executive Vlad Tenev disclosed that Trust Accounts, unveiled in August, have already attracted more than $150 million in customer deposits.
The company’s proprietary blockchain infrastructure generated approximately $3.8 million in transaction fees on September 1 alone, demonstrating that cryptocurrency continues driving meaningful growth.
Analyst Community Turns Bullish
On September 1, Morgan Stanley elevated HOOD from Equal Weight to Overweight, simultaneously raising its price objective from $124 to $150.
Piper Sandler’s Patrick Moley increased his target from $135 to $145, citing anticipated expansion in prediction market engagement as football season commences.
Scotiabank joined the optimistic chorus by launching coverage with a positive outlook during this timeframe.
However, not all analysts moved upward. Barclays reduced its target from $122 to $105, while Goldman Sachs lowered its projection from $137 to $118, though both maintained buy-equivalent recommendations.
Institutional investors control 93.27% of outstanding shares. TD Waterhouse Canada expanded its position by 51.1% during Q2, accumulating 53,324 shares valued at approximately $5.8 million.
Corporate insiders, conversely, have been reducing positions. CEO Vladimir Tenev divested 375,000 shares at $116.17 on July 6, representing a 50% decrease in his holdings. CFO Shiv Verma similarly sold shares in August. Total insider dispositions over the preceding 90 days amount to roughly $69.1 million.
The prevailing analyst consensus registers a Moderate Buy rating with an average price target of $122.67, closely aligned with HOOD’s current trading level.
