Tesla (TSLA) Stock Dips 4% as Cybertruck Prices Surge to $85,000
Key Highlights
- Tesla increased the Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD price to $74,990 (up 7%) and the Premium AWD to $84,990 (up 6%)
- Shares of TSLA declined 4% on Monday, marking its steepest single-day drop in a month, despite climbing 12% throughout August
- U.S. Cybertruck deliveries in the first half of 2026 totaled approximately 7,263 units after a steep 45% quarterly decline
- Manufacturing at Giga Texas resumed normal pace after Tesla recovered essential production equipment from supplier Angstrom Automotive
- Following Nevada’s green light for up to 5,000 Tesla robotaxis, Citizens maintained its “Market Perform” rating on the stock
Tesla implemented price increases of up to 7% on two Cybertruck variants this Tuesday, sending TSLA stock down 3.83% as market participants question whether consumer appetite can justify the elevated pricing.
The base Cybertruck Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive configuration now carries a $74,990 price tag, representing a $5,000 jump from its previous $69,990 sticker. Meanwhile, the Premium All-Wheel Drive variant increased from $79,990 to $84,990. The flagship Cyberbeast model held steady at $99,990.
Tesla’s pricing strategy for the angular electric pickup has been anything but consistent. Last August, the automaker pushed the Cyberbeast to $114,990—a substantial $15,000 markup—before walking back that decision in February. During the same February period, Tesla briefly offered a budget-friendly Dual Motor variant at $59,990, which CEO Elon Musk indicated would only remain available for a limited 10-day window.
These recent price adjustments naturally prompt an important consideration: does sufficient market demand exist to absorb higher costs?
Sales figures paint a challenging picture. According to Cox Automotive’s analysis, Tesla moved only 3,519 Cybertruck units during Q1 2026, representing approximately a 45% year-over-year contraction. Combined first-half 2026 deliveries across the United States totaled roughly 7,263 vehicles.
To provide perspective, annual 2025 Cybertruck deliveries plummeted 48% to just 20,237 units, compared with 38,965 vehicles delivered in 2024. These volumes remain dramatically below Elon Musk’s ambitious annual production target of 250,000 units.
Since Tesla refrains from reporting Cybertruck-specific delivery data, market observers must depend on third-party research from organizations like Cox Automotive for sales insights.
Wait Times Now Extending Well Into 2027
Tesla’s website configurator reveals significantly extended fulfillment timeframes for much of its vehicle range. Tesla shareholder Sawyer Merritt highlighted that current estimates point to October or November deliveries for most configurations. The entry-level Dual Motor Cybertruck won’t reach customers until sometime in 2027.
Premium configurations typically arrive more quickly. The Cyberbeast recently showed availability within just weeks in certain markets, while existing inventory vehicles can be delivered even faster.
Manufacturing Recovers Following Supply Chain Conflict
Manufacturing operations show signs of recovery. Cybertruck assembly at Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory encountered disruptions earlier this year stemming from a commercial disagreement with supplier Angstrom Automotive Group that threatened access to vital production tooling.
Tesla obtained a temporary restraining order in early August, enabling the company to reclaim the necessary equipment. Completed Cybertrucks started appearing in the facility’s outbound staging areas soon thereafter.
Tesla has implemented a significant engineering modification to the Cybertruck’s design, replacing aluminum underbody components with an advanced composite material that reduces both weight and manufacturing costs. Additionally, the Actually Smart Summon capability has started deploying to Cybertruck customers.
From a regulatory standpoint, Nevada transportation authorities granted authorization for up to 5,000 Tesla robotaxis, substantially exceeding the 1,000-vehicle permits issued to Waymo and Uber partners Motional and Zoox. Following this development, Citizens Bank reaffirmed its “Market Perform” outlook on Tesla shares.
