U.S. Inflation Exceeds Expectations in September

In September 2026, the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded a month-over-month increase of 0.649%, surpassing analysts' forecasts of 0.58%. This rise indicates a stronger inflationary trend than previously anticipated.

The core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, also showed significant growth, climbing 0.335% compared to the expected 0.21%. This marks an acceleration in annual core inflation to 2.564%, up from 2.446% in the previous month.

Overall, annual inflation reached 3.738%, with both headline and core inflation figures exceeding market expectations, suggesting persistent inflationary pressures in the U.S. economy.
