US Inflation Rate Rises to 3.7% in September, Increasing Federal Reserve Hike Expectations

The annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the United States rose to 3.7% in September 2026, surpassing the forecasted rate of 3.6%. This increase in inflation is attributed to various economic factors, including a 0.3% rise in core inflation, which also exceeded the expected 0.2%.

In response to the inflation data, market expectations for an interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve have shifted significantly. The probability of a rate increase in October has jumped to 33%, up from 21% prior to the release of the CPI figures. Conversely, the likelihood of the Fed holding rates steady has decreased from 79% to 65%.

These developments indicate a growing concern among investors and analysts regarding inflationary pressures in the U.S. economy, which may influence the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decisions in the near future.
