UBS Projects Strong Growth in AI Demand and Hyperscaler Cloud Revenue

UBS has reported that demand for artificial intelligence (AI) remains robust, with expectations that the upcoming earnings season will be driven by solid fundamentals rather than narratives. The bank anticipates that hyperscaler cloud revenue growth will accelerate to 58% year-on-year in the September quarter, up from 48% in the June quarter. This growth is seen as a key indicator of the health of the AI market, as major cloud providers are the largest consumers of AI chips and infrastructure.

Recent industry data supports UBS's optimistic outlook, highlighting significant revenue increases from semiconductor companies. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) reported a 51% rise in quarterly revenue, while Samsung Electronics noted an almost ninefold increase in operating profit. Additionally, Hon Hai Precision Industry, a major AI server assembler, exceeded sales estimates, and Marvell Technology raised its revenue forecast for fiscal 2028, further indicating strong demand for AI compute and infrastructure.

UBS also pointed to the early success of Meta's Muse AI assistant, which has achieved over 6.6 million downloads and 1.8 million daily active users within its first month. This suggests a growing consumer appetite for AI agents, which could open new revenue streams for companies through subscriptions and transactions. However, UBS cautioned that concerns regarding growth, financing, and safety could lead to volatility in the market, urging investors to adopt a diversified approach focused on quality semiconductor and hardware companies, as well as defensive technology firms.
