US Durable Goods Orders Remain Flat in August

In August 2026, durable goods orders in the United States showed no change, registering a 0.0% increase, which fell short of the anticipated decline of 0.4%. This stagnation follows a revised increase of 1.1% in July, indicating a slowdown in demand for long-lasting manufactured goods.

When excluding transportation, durable goods orders rose by 0.4%, slightly below the expected increase of 0.6%. Additionally, orders excluding defense saw a more significant drop, with a prior increase of 1.3% now adjusted to a mere 0.2% rise in August.

Non-defense capital goods orders, excluding aircraft, also underperformed expectations, with a 0.5% increase compared to the previous month's 0.2%. These figures suggest a cautious outlook among businesses regarding investment in durable goods amid economic uncertainties.
