US Stock Indices Decline as NASDAQ 100 Shows Weakness

US stock indices are experiencing a downward trend today, with the S&P 500 slightly lower, the NASDAQ Composite down by 0.33%, and the NASDAQ 100 declining by 0.65%. This follows a period of record highs reached last Tuesday, after which the indices retreated on Wednesday and Thursday. Although there was a rebound on Friday that improved the technical outlook, today's declines are diminishing that bullish momentum.

The technical indicators reveal a divergence among the indices. The S&P 500 is currently trading at 7809.96, above its 100-hour moving average of 7738.18, indicating that buyers remain in control. The NASDAQ Composite is near 27275, above its 100-hour moving average of 27151.12, suggesting a maintained bullish bias, albeit with less cushion above support. In contrast, the NASDAQ 100 has fallen below its 100-hour moving average of 30689.21, currently at 30633.80, giving sellers a slight technical advantage.

Traders are advised to note that a single down day does not necessarily alter the overall technical bias. The positioning of prices relative to support levels is crucial. While the S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite are holding above their key moving averages, the NASDAQ 100's breach of support indicates that sellers could maintain control in the short term if prices remain below this level.
