European Stock Indices Mostly Rise, DAX Struggles to Maintain Momentum

As trading concluded for the day in London and across Europe, major stock indices showed a generally positive trend, with the UK's FTSE 100 leading the gains. The index rose by 74.53 points, or 0.70%, closing at 10,724.87. France's CAC also posted a gain, increasing by 45.48 points, or 0.58%, to finish at 7,873.12. However, Italy's FTSE MIB diverged from this trend, experiencing a decline of 303.32 points, or 0.61%, ending at 49,753.85.

The German DAX index saw a modest increase of 38.71 points, or 0.15%, closing at 25,298.62. The index briefly surpassed its 100-day moving average of 25,416, reaching a high of 25,448, but ultimately could not sustain this upward momentum. This failure to maintain the break above the moving average indicates ongoing challenges for buyers, who will need to overcome the resistance in the 25,416 to 25,448 range to regain control.

In the bond markets, European benchmark 10-year yields showed mixed results, with Germany's yield at 3.459%, down 0.4 basis points, while France's yield rose to 4.873%, up 3.7 basis points. Meanwhile, U.S. stocks faced pressure following a higher-than-expected Consumer Price Index report, with declines led by the Nasdaq and Russell 2000 indices. The rise in U.S. Treasury yields has added to the uncertainty surrounding inflation and Federal Reserve policy, impacting market sentiment.
