European Stocks Decline as DAX Holds Key Support Level

European stock markets experienced a significant downturn at the start of October, with all five major indices closing lower. The German DAX index ended at 24,939.36, down 259.84 points or 1.03%, managing to stay just above its crucial 200-day moving average of 24,828.76. This level is seen as a key support point, with buyers stepping in to prevent further losses as the index reached a session low of 24,831.60.

In contrast, the UK FTSE 100 closed at 10,428.26, down 177.75 points or 1.68%, failing to maintain its position above the 200-day moving average of 10,451.85. This decline suggests a shift in market sentiment, with sellers gaining control. The next downside target for the FTSE 100 is identified at 10,327.75, which represents the 50% midpoint of its previous gains since March 2026.

Other European indices also faced losses, with France’s CAC 40 closing at 7,835.32, down 129.20 points or 1.62%, Spain’s IBEX 35 at 19,005.30, down 420.90 points or 2.17%, and Italy’s FTSE MIB at 50,237.86, down 1,134.11 points or 2.21%. The mixed performance of European yields, with German and UK yields declining while French and Italian yields rose, further reflects the varied market conditions across the continent.
