European Stock Markets Experience Relief Bounce Amid Rising Bond Yields

European stock markets opened higher on September 25, 2026, with the Eurostoxx index rising by 0.8%. Major indices also saw gains, including Germany's DAX at 0.6%, France's CAC 40 at 0.5%, the UK's FTSE 100 at 0.5%, Spain's IBEX at 0.8%, and Italy's FTSE MIB at 1.0%. This increase is characterized as a relief bounce following a period of market pressure, rather than a definitive shift towards risk-on sentiment.

The easing of oil prices contributed to this temporary reprieve, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude down 1.3% to $93.55. However, the bond market remains a significant concern, as 10-year U.S. Treasury yields surged to 5.20%, the highest level since 2007, while 30-year Treasury yields reached 5.50%, marking a peak not seen since 2004. These rising yields pose challenges for equity valuations and contribute to a cautious market atmosphere.

U.S. futures also provided some support for the European markets, with S&P 500 futures up 0.1% and Nasdaq futures increasing by 0.4%. Notably, shares of Meta Platforms rose by 4% following the launch of its Muse AI, which has drawn investor interest. Despite the positive movements in stocks, analysts caution that the overall market mood remains one of relief rather than optimism, as the potential for further selloffs persists if bond yields continue to rise.
