Sharjah strengthens power network with $200m in projects

Sharjah is working on 13 major transmission projects as the northern emirate seeks to boost its economy and strengthen its power network.

The total value of these projects exceeds AED725 million ($197 million), the UAE state-run Wam news agency reported.

Two 220/132 kV electricity transmission projects, valued at more than AED341 million, have been completed, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority confirmed.

The projects will supply new residential, investment and industrial areas with reliable electricity services, reduce pressure on existing substations and help to ensure continuity of supply.

Sharjah, one of the seven emirates that make up the UAE, has a population of nearly 2 million, making it the Gulf state’s third most populous emirate after Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

In June, the emirate’s government launched a AED750 million programme of road upgrades designed to ease traffic congestion on routes towards Dubai.

The Sharjah ruler approved a 2026 budget of AED45 billion ($12 billion) to support economic growth and fund strategic initiatives and projects.
