European Stock Indices Close Mostly Lower Amid Middle East Tensions

Major European stock indices closed mostly lower as traders in London and across Europe wrapped up their sessions. Germany's DAX fell by 0.07% to 25,259.91, while France's CAC 40 and the UK's FTSE 100 also recorded slight declines of 0.07% and 0.06%, respectively. Spain's IBEX 35 underperformed with a drop of 0.39% to 19,210.70. In contrast, Italy's FTSE MIB gained 0.04%, closing at 50,057.17.

The mixed performance in European bond yields reflected market sentiment, with benchmark 10-year yields generally declining except for the UK, where yields rose slightly to 5.451%. Germany's yields decreased to 3.463%, while France's fell to 4.839%.

Tensions in the Middle East, particularly comments from former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Iran and the Houthis, contributed to market unease. Trump indicated a forthcoming decision on Iran and mentioned potential U.S. naval operations, which kept traders on edge about possible escalations. Meanwhile, oil prices remained elevated, with WTI front-month futures trading at $93.90, up 0.17%.
