S&P 500 Experiences Significant Decline Amid Tech Sector Selloff

The S&P 500 index has fallen sharply, declining by 98 points to 7706, marking a 1.3% drop, the largest since late July. This downturn has erased most of the gains made earlier in the month, reflecting a challenging day for the stock market. The decline is particularly pronounced in the technology sector, where major companies are facing significant selloffs.

Notable tech stocks have been adversely affected, with Nvidia down 3.2%, AMD dropping 5.6%, and Intel decreasing by 4.1%. Other large-cap tech companies such as Alphabet, Microsoft, and Meta have also seen losses, while Apple has managed to gain 0.3%, indicating a potential shift in investor sentiment towards the company.

In the financial sector, Bank of America shares fell 5.8% after the bank reported earnings that missed expectations. Despite this, CEO Brian Moynihan expressed optimism about the U.S. economy, citing consistent consumer spending and strong economic signals from their client base. Meanwhile, the bond market has shown signs of recovery, with 10-year yields decreasing after earlier spikes, suggesting a cautious outlook among investors.
