USD/JPY Gains Ahead of Fed Chair Warsh's Speech at Jackson Hole

The US dollar has shown mixed performance recently as traders prepare for a key speech by Federal Reserve Chair Warsh at the Jackson Hole Symposium. While no forward guidance is expected, market participants are keenly focused on Warsh's stance regarding recent easing in financial conditions following the Treasury buyback announcement. If he expresses concerns about the impact of easing on inflation targets, it could strengthen the dollar.

In contrast, the Japanese yen remains under pressure, with the anticipated Bank of Japan rate hike already factored into the market. Without a shift in Fed interest rate expectations or a more aggressive tightening from the BoJ, the yen's outlook is unlikely to improve significantly. The USD/JPY exchange rate has been recovering slowly, with resistance around the 160.50 level identified as a critical point for traders.

Technical analysis indicates that if the USD/JPY reaches the 160.50 resistance, sellers may emerge, aiming to drive the price back toward the 155.00 level. Conversely, a breakout above this resistance could encourage bullish sentiment, pushing the pair to new cycle highs. Traders are also monitoring support levels around 158.50, which could provide a buying opportunity if tested.
