Xi Jinping to Discuss U.S. Arms Sales to Taiwan with President Trump

Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington this week, where he is expected to press for a halt to U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. This meeting comes amid rising tensions between the United States and China regarding military support for Taiwan, which Beijing considers a breakaway province.

In addition to urging a stop to future arms sales, Xi is likely to call for the cessation of deliveries for weapons that have already been ordered by Taiwan. A significant arms package valued at $14 billion remains on hold, with Trump previously indicating that it could serve as a bargaining tool in negotiations with China.
