ZetaChain (ZETA) Votes to Abandon Its Blockchain in Favor of Solana Migration
Key Highlights
- The ZetaChain community voted overwhelmingly to discontinue its independent Layer 1 network and transition ZETA to Solana’s blockchain.
- With 99.4% approval and 58% voter turnout, Proposal 68 surpassed the necessary quorum threshold.
- The migration will convert ZETA into a Solana SPL token at a 1:1 ratio without altering the total supply.
- An additional governance decision is needed to establish the snapshot timing, migration mechanics, and final shutdown schedule.
- The team intends to concentrate resources on Anuma, its privacy-focused AI platform that has reportedly attracted over 300,000 users.
ZetaChain community members have greenlit a significant restructuring that will discontinue the project’s independent Layer 1 network and relocate its ZETA token to the Solana ecosystem.
The decisive vote on Proposal 68 concluded Sunday with near-unanimous backing at 99.4%, data from ZetaChain’s governance dashboard confirms. With 58% of eligible tokens participating, the measure comfortably exceeded the 40% quorum requirement.
This decision represents a dramatic strategic shift for a venture that secured $27 million in funding during 2023 to develop cross-chain connectivity solutions.
Transition to Solana SPL Standard
According to the approved framework, ZETA will be reissued as a native token on Solana’s network using the SPL token standard.
Existing token holders will receive equivalent amounts on Solana via a direct 1:1 exchange. Both the token symbol and maximum supply cap will remain identical to current parameters.
All previously established vesting agreements will continue unchanged following the migration.
The proposal specifically addresses native ZETA and the ZetaChain Layer 1 infrastructure. ZETA tokens currently circulating on Ethereum and BNB Chain fall outside this particular governance measure.
Importantly, Sunday’s vote authorizes the transition but doesn’t trigger immediate action.
A follow-up governance proposal will specify the exact block height for recording balances, identify the final operational block of the ZetaChain network, and provide detailed redemption procedures for claiming tokens on Solana.
ZetaChain confirmed this subsequent vote won’t proceed until cryptocurrency exchanges have verified their support mechanisms for handling the token conversion.
Staking operations will remain active until the community approves the shutdown timeline. The project hasn’t yet disclosed whether staking functionality or reward distributions will continue after relocating to Solana.
Strategic Pivot Toward AI Development
ZetaChain leadership indicated that operating an independent Layer 1 blockchain no longer aligns with the project’s primary development objectives.
The organization is redirecting efforts toward Anuma, a privacy-oriented multi-model AI platform that debuted in February.
According to ZetaChain’s figures, Anuma has onboarded more than 300,000 users and handled over one million queries across 35 different AI models.
The platform features an encrypted memory architecture that maintains continuity across various AI model interactions.
ZETA tokens already serve a functional purpose within Anuma’s ecosystem. Users can stake tokens to acquire credits redeemable for AI-powered services.
The project also referenced the operational complexity of maintaining Cosmos SDK-based blockchain infrastructure as a motivating factor for the transition.
According to the proposal documentation, sustaining an independent network demands continuous validator coordination for implementing software upgrades and security enhancements throughout the system.
Following the migration, Solana’s existing validator network will provide security for native ZETA tokens, replacing ZetaChain’s standalone validator infrastructure.
ZetaChain highlighted Solana’s performance characteristics—including transaction throughput, fee structure, available liquidity, and AI agent infrastructure—as primary considerations supporting the migration decision.
For the immediate term, ZetaChain’s Layer 1 network, staking mechanisms, and native token balances remain fully operational as developers prepare the subsequent proposal that will finalize migration procedures and the shutdown timeline.
