AllUnity Launches a Dollar Stablecoin Built for Europe

European stablecoin issuer AllUnity has launched USDAU, a dollar-pegged token regulated under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. The token will maintain a 1:1 peg through segregated reserves and debut on Ethereum, Solana, Base, Tempo, Arc and Polygon, according to an announcement shared with Cointelegraph.

USDAU Becomes AllUnity's Fourth Fiat-Backed Stablecoin

AllUnity already issues three MiCA-regulated stablecoins: the euro-backed EURAU, the Swiss franc-backed CHFAU and the Swedish krona-backed SEKAU. CoinGecko measures EURAU's market capitalisation at roughly $400,000 and CHFAU's at about $45 million, placing the issuer among Europe's early movers in regulated stablecoin issuance. The launch arrives as US dollar-pegged tokens account for more than 99% of the roughly $291 billion global stablecoin market by capitalisation, according to CoinGecko data cited by Cointelegraph. That concentration has drawn scrutiny from European policymakers concerned about euro sovereignty in tokenized finance.

AllUnity CEO Pushes Back on Dollar Dominance Framing

AllUnity Chief Executive Officer Alexander Höptner rejected the idea that the dollar itself poses the central risk to European financial autonomy. Höptner argued that the real concern lies in how dollar liquidity reaches European markets, not in the currency denomination."Europe's concern isn't with the dollar, it's with dollar liquidity flowing through offshore issuers with no European supervisor, no enforceable redemption rights and no visibility into their reserves," Höptner told Cointelegraph.Höptner said USDAU is designed to bring dollar liquidity inside Europe's regulatory perimeter, giving European companies access to dollars for global trade and cross-border payments under MiCA supervision.

A MiCA-Compliant Dollar Token Tests Europe's Regulatory Logic

The European Central Bank (ECB) warned in June that greater use of dollar stablecoins in European tokenized finance could deepen dependence on the greenback and weaken the euro's role.A MiCA-regulated USD stablecoin complicates that narrative because it satisfies European regulatory requirements while still channelling dollar demand.  AllUnity's approach separates regulatory compliance from currency denomination, arguing that supervision of the issuer matters more than the underlying peg. Whether European regulators treat compliant dollar tokens as a net positive for financial stability or as a vector for further dollarisation will shape the competitive landscape for issuers operating inside the bloc.

ECB Has Flagged Stablecoin Liquidity Risks

The ECB and other eurozone central banks have separately pushed for changes to MiCA's minimum bank deposit requirements for stablecoin issuers, citing risks to bank funding if large reserves move into non-bank instruments. Those consultations remain ongoing as the EU refines its stablecoin supervision framework ahead of a planned MiCA review in 2027. AllUnity has not disclosed a target market capitalisation for USDAU or a timeline for listing on centralized exchanges. The issuer's existing tokens suggest an incremental growth strategy, with CHFAU's market cap at about $45 million, compared with roughly $400,000 for EURAU. A dollar-denominated token could accelerate that trajectory given the outsized demand for USD stablecoins relative to other fiat pegs.
