Anthropic Secures 16GW of Computing Power with Potential Costs Reaching $517 Billion

Anthropic has signed contracts for at least 14.8GW of computing power over the past 11 months, bringing its total to approximately 16GW when including earlier agreements. The company anticipates utilizing this capacity gradually in the coming years, with a potential total expenditure of up to $517 billion, primarily over the next decade.

The expansion is largely driven by the demand for Anthropic's AI models, Claude Code and Cowork, which have seen growth surpassing the company's expectations. Recent agreements include a significant deal with Amazon for up to 5GW, alongside contributions from Google, Broadcom, Microsoft, and NVIDIA, which collectively account for an additional 6GW.

Anthropic has also secured all computing power from SpaceX's Colossus 1, acquiring over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs, including the latest models. Many of the contracts signed by Anthropic extend beyond 2030, reflecting a long-term strategy to meet the increasing demand for AI capabilities. In comparison, OpenAI aims to reach 30GW by 2030, with an expected investment of around $750 billion in computing power by that time.
