ByteDance's Doubao to Launch AI Personal Assistant App 'Xiao Dou'

ByteDance's Doubao has announced the name of its AI personal assistant product as 'Xiao Dou' and is preparing to launch an independent app version. This name was confirmed during the summer of 2026, and the product is currently undergoing internal testing, with potential adjustments before its final release.

Reports indicate that Doubao is accelerating its development of personal assistant products, planning to integrate a project codenamed 'Spell' with its existing offerings. The new product is expected to be launched to the public in the near future, although Doubao has not yet provided an official comment on the matter.

Xiao Dou will serve as a consumer-level personal assistant, complementing Doubao's main app, which focuses on general conversations, and Doubao Work, designed for enterprise use. The domestic market currently lacks mature personal assistant products, with most competitors, including Tencent and Alibaba, still in the testing phases of their own offerings.
