UK FCA opens authorization applications for crypto firms, new regulatory regime to take effect in October 2027

PANews reported on September 30 that the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced it will accept authorization applications from cryptoasset firms under the new regulatory regime with immediate effect. Firms planning to continue operating in the UK should submit their applications by February 28, 2027, and the new regime will take effect on October 25, 2027. At that point, crypto firms operating in the UK will come under full FCA regulation for the first time, with standards covering consumer protection, custody of client assets, market integrity and financial resilience. The FCA stressed that submitting an application does not mean automatic approval, and firms that fail to meet the standards will not be allowed to continue providing regulated cryptoasset services in the UK.
