Bastion Partners with Sony Bank to Launch Corporate Stablecoin

Bastion, a financial technology company, has been selected as the sole stablecoin issuance provider for Sony Bank, marking a significant shift in how major corporations approach payment systems. This partnership, announced on December 1, 2025, will enable Sony Bank to create a USD-backed stablecoin intended for various functions, including treasury operations and in-app payments within Sony's extensive ecosystem. The stablecoin is expected to launch in 2026, pending regulatory approval.

Bastion's CEO, Nassim Eddequiouaq, highlighted that large enterprises are increasingly seeking to control their payment processes rather than relying on traditional card networks like Visa and Mastercard. By developing their own stablecoins, companies can eliminate intermediary fees and gain greater control over transaction economics, including reserve yields and redemption fees. Bastion's infrastructure allows companies to manage compliance and reserve requirements without building these systems from the ground up.

Unlike many competitors in the stablecoin market, Bastion does not issue its own stablecoin but instead provides white-label solutions for businesses looking to establish their own. This strategy has attracted significant investment, including funding from Coinbase Ventures and the Sony Innovation Fund. Bastion operates under a limited purpose trust charter from the New York Department of Financial Services, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards as the landscape for stablecoins continues to evolve.
